Open Level 1 Asian Regional Coaching Course in Sri Lanka
Lausanne – 1 March 2012
A Regional level 1 Asian coaching course took place from 22-29 January 2012 in Colombo, Sri Lanka under the expertise of the World Archery Development and Education Director: Pascal COLMAIRE. The course was held at the Colombo Archery Centre. A dozen of tireless local candidates and a Malaysian attended the course with enthusiasm.
The content followed the classical World Archery agenda, including:
Ø What is coaching?
Ø Instruction delivery
Ø Practical teaching through interactive process
Ø Shooting sequence including: Preparation movements – Forces production period – The shot – Continuity (bow arm included)
Ø Equipment: Choice; Set-up; Maintenance
Ø Psychology: Concentration/Attention; Mental and Visual activities – Breathing – Visualisation – Stress identification and management
Ø Physical: general and specific strength, cardio and body balance
Ø Evaluation of the candidates
It was a practical coaching education programme, including lots of sessions on the range (with bow in hands) during which the participants alternately acted as coach and novice.
In a recent past, one could notice better results from Sri Lanka archery, and it is expected that this course will extend this progression over the time.
Congratulations to Mr Sam RAJAPAKSA and the staff of the Colombo Archery School for the excellent running of the course. For information on the access to the Colombo Archery Centre, please contact casarchery@yahoo.com.
