Athlete of the Week: Alison WILLIAMSON (GBR)
Lausanne – 5 April 2012
OLIVER, FOLKARD and WILLIAMSON at Commonwealth Games 2010
Alison WILLIAMSON (GBR) is on target to qualify for her sixth Olympic Games. The 40-year-old was the top scorer last weekend in the first of three British selection shoots.
Three women will represent Great Britain at the London Olympic Games, which take place between 27 July and 3 August 2012. Those places are being competed for over the month of April between seven women hopefuls at three selection shoots in Lilleshall.
Alison WILLIAMSON, who is looking for a sixth successive Olympic appearance, came out on top with a total of 2547 from four 70m Rounds, two points ahead of her closest competitor.
Joining Alison WILLIAMSON for the second stage of the selection process are Amy OLIVER, Naomi FOLKARD, Beccy MARTIN, Charlotte BURGESS and Nicky HUNT—the former No. 1 compound archer in the world who converted to recurve in a bid to achieve her Olympic dream.
The second selection shoot will take place over the weekend of 14-15 April. Four women will then advance to the final selection shoot over three days on 19-21 April. The name of the archers who will be representing Great Britain at London 2012 will be revealed at Lords on 9 May.
Alison WILLIAMSON, who made her Olympic debut at age 20 in Barcelona 1992, said the highlight of her career was winning the individual bronze medal at the Athens Olympics in 2004. Who knows where she will stand in 2012?
