Quotes of the Official Practice Day
Shanghai
Recurve Men
Jacek PROC (POL)
The Recurve Men’s team is still waiting for three out of four bows that got lost on their way from Moscow. We are having a lot of fun because we are using the spare equipment of our teammates and friends among the athletes present in Shanghai.
By the way, we are optimistic and, for sure, we will do our best.
Sjef VAN DEN BERG (NED)
It's huge to be here at age 16. It's very impressive to be here among the “big” archers, but I'm feeling in great shape and I'll do my best to be on the field, shooting finals, next Saturday.
Viktor RUBAN (UKR) – Individual Olympic Champion 2008
I feel comfortable to start the World Cup season here in Shanghai. I like the place and I like how the organizers work.
I hope the weather will remain good, as it will help a lot for good results.
Marco GALIAZZO (ITA) – Individual Olympic Champion 2004
It’s the first time we are in China in the Spring. I like it and it’s more comfortable than in summer when we usually come.
For our team it's the first outdoor event, we are worried about other team preparations because many of them attended Asian Grand Prix in Bangkok and Arizona Cup in the USA. This is the first chance to face each other in preparation for the Olympics.
Recurve Women
Denise Astrid VAN LAMOEN (CHI)
This is a very important year due to the Olympic Games. I've been at the Olympics for the first time in Sydney 2000 and I earned a quota for my country last year at the World Championships in Torino. I hope I will be the one representing my country in London in July and to achieve this it's important to have a good start at the World Cup.
After this event, I'll fly to Europe to prepare for the second World Cup leg in Antalya.
Nina MYLCHENKO (UKR)
I'm feeling good. This year the World Cup stages are very important for us because they will be part of the selection for the athletes going to the Olympics, so we are all doing our best.
Compound Men
Sergio PAGNI (ITA)
Tokyo is a wonderful city. I always dreamed of going there on holidays, but I'd like to go there for World Cup finals, too. I like “countdowns”: 5 World Cup Finals in a row, 4 World Cup Finals Podiums and 3 gold medals will be a nice countdown for sure (smiling).
Jokes apart, this year is very tricky: we have only three legs and in every leg it is very important to earn as many World Cup points as possible. There are not so many compound archers here in Shangai, but the strongest are here and it will be a challenging competition.
Patrizio HOFER (SUI)
I'm here among the best archers in the world. The World Cup season is short due to the Olympics, but it's very challenging. You must be 100% in every leg if you aim to get to the Tokyo finals.
Reo WILDE (USA) – winner in Shanghai with a perfect score last year
It's exciting to be here again in Shanghai. Weather is fine today and I hope it stays like this as it will help us a lot.
With only 3 events it will be a tricky year to get the finals; we will see this summer who is going to Tokyo and who's out. For this event it's important to get as many points as possible.
Compound Women
Vanina BACKIS (ARG)
I'm very excited to be here. It's my first time in a World Cup event and it's the first time for an Argentinian shooter in Asia. Unfortunately I'm the only one from my country here in Shanghai and it's a pity because it's a very well organized event.
Taking a look toward my target face I'm very proud of my shots; let's see in the next days.
Olga BOSCH (VEN)
We are still very tired because of jet lag, but I and the team feel in great shape. We are ready to start a new exciting World Cup season here in Shanghai!
