Quotes of Qualifications

Recurve Men  Juan RODRIGUEZ (ESP) Luckily we had no rain during this morning. Sometimes the wind was tricky but we managed it.   We are a strong team and I feel we can have good results here. It's an important event for us because we're looking for a team Olympic place in Ogden and being here is the best training possible for us.   Luca MELOTTO (ITA) I'm very proud of the result achieved, because it means that all my winter training was well done. I like this field very much and fortunately during the competition there was only a light wind, but no heavy rain like during the night.   Tomorrow is another day and we have to restart from the beginning with the matches but I have very good feedback from my shooting. Let's see how it will go on.   KIM Woojin (KOR) – after winning the shoot-off against Dimitro HRACHOV for the 8th place (to be pre-seeded in 1/16 of eliminations) I and the entire team are already focused in next days matches, so I actually did not expect a shoot-off today. I did not think it was needed for the 8th place. However, I am trained for it and I shot as usual.   Recurve Women   Maureen TUIMALEALIIFANO (SAM) I have switched to recurve from compound only four months ago and the Oceania Qualifier for the Olympic Games was my first international competition. So I am very happy that I won a place for the Games. I still need to raise my scores and this is why I am here in Shanghai. First of all I want to beat my personal best, rather than beat opponents.   I am working full time in Human Resource, but I spent 3-4 hours on the archery range after work every day. I am fully motivated. There are not so many people shooting archery in Samoa, but our Prime Minister is one of them—and a good one. He actually participated at the Ocenania Games in 2007 and he was a keen supporter of Walter Joseph MUAAUSA who qualified for the Beijing Games. Our Prime Minister went to see him in Beijing. Now we have plans to develop archery through the school but it will take time. For the moment, I will focus on the London Games!   Please see Maureen’s full interview on www.archery.tv   Inna STEPANOVA (RUS) All was good today apart the weather. It's an important year for recurve archers and we have to concentrate in every competition from now on to the London Games. Now today's competition is over but we go training and testing the team for next days matches.   Nathalie DIELEN (SUI) Today was a really strange day, I cannot say if it was the weather, continously changing, or the light. I shot one really bad arrow but for the others I was happy with my technique. Still, it was difficult to shoot scores of over 50 points per end. The arrows started going in the middle of the target face only in the final three ends for me today.  Natalia VALEEVA (ITA) I liked so much today’s competition. It was playing all the time with the wind. At the beginning it was tricky, because it was changing continuously, but at the end I was enjoying it so much!   The good thing of our sport is that conditions are the same for everybody. In a day like today the athlete who wins is the one who did less mistakes.   Compound Men   Leandro ROJAS (VEN) I'm very proud of my result, especially because I achieved it in a day with such a difficult weather condition. Today I was very nervous but I tried not to think about the competition and I did all my best to keep concentration up to the end.   My aim for tomorrow is get to the finals on Shanghai riverside, If I keep shooting in this way I can do it.   Shaun TEASDALE (NZL) Today it couldn't be better. I was worried in the second half, because it seemed it was going to raise more wind and rain. Fortunately it didn't and everything run smooth. About the next days? I'm optimistic!   Compound Women   Diane WATSON (USA) The US team did very well and my teammates (since I am the 4th ahtlete) are seeded 1st with a good advantage on the trailing teams. Individually we are also all well placed. But it's only the first day of competition and from tomorrow we have to start over again with the single elimination matches.   Danielle BROWN (GBR) I really enjoyed this competition. I wanted to do my best and I did it. This is a good training camp for Paralympic Games that will be hosted in my own country, so it's important for me to be ready. This is better than every kind of preparation I could have in winter time.   World Archery Communication
