WILDE and LOGINOVA win the compound qualifications
Antalya
In the men's individual event WILDE was still in the race for a new world record with two ends to go, but with 712 points he finally ended up two points behind his own previous mark of 714. On the female side, a newcomerfrom Germany, Christina BERGER, who was previously a pistol shooter, tied the best score of 348 by Erika ANSCHUTZ (USA) half-way through qualifications. The German lost some ground in the second half but still finished in the top 8 at 6th place with 690 points. Compound Men
The first half of the qualification was topped by the 2009 individual world champion and multiple team world champion Reo WILDE (USA) 1st with 359 points. As he had dropped only one point so far, he was still in the race to beat his own world record of 714. The American was followed by the 2009 and 2010 World Cup champion Sergio PAGNI (ITA) 2nd with 356, and Dominique GENET (FRA) 3rd with 354. The Frenchman finished 3rd at the first stage in Shanghai mid-April. Then three archers followed with 353 each, Michael CAUWE (BEL), Peter ELZINGA (NED) and Martin DAMBSO (DEN) from 4th to 6th places, and three others with 352, namely Duncan BUSBY (GBR), Braden GELLENTHIEN (USA) and Pierre Julien DELOCHE (FRA), 7th, 8th and 9th.
With a score of 596 points with 12 arrows to go, WILDE needed to drop no more than one point in the last two ends if he wanted to set a new world record. As he dropped two (654), he could only possibly tie his best mark if he finished with a perfect 60 in the very last end. WILDE ended up qualifications with another 58-point series and clinched top place with 712.
ELZINGA was the best in the second half (356) and went up from 5th to 2nd place with a 709 total, new national record. DAMSBO also improved, from 6th to 3rd place, with 707. Same final score for PAGNI, but with the 17th mark of the second half, the Italian lost two places and finished 4th. Three archers followed one point behind (706): BUSBY 5th, GELLENTHIEN 6th, and GENET 7th. A shoot-off between the Frenchman DELOCHE and the Canadian Dietmar TRILLUS was needed to decide on the 8th place, synonymous with exemption for the first two elimination rounds. While TRILLUS scored a 10, DELOCHE hit the X10-ring and reached the top 8.

Compound Women
The 2011 World Cup Final winner Erika ANSCHUTZ (USA) was on top of the ranking after the first half with 348 points. The surprising 23-year old German Christina BERGER, making her first national team this season and shooting in her first international event, also scored 348 after 36 arrows. She was ranked 2nd provisionally as she shot the same number of 10s (26) but fewer X10s (10 v 14) than ANSCHUTZ. Third and fourth with 347 each were another American Christie COLIN and the current world champion, runner-up in Shanghai Albina LOGINOVA (RUS).
The rising star Marcella TONIOLI (ITA), winner in Shanghai earlier in the season, ranked 5th at the half-way mark (346). She was followed closely by two archers with 345, Diane WATSON (USA) and Viktoria BALZHANOVA (RUS), and two others with 344, Jamie VAN NATTA (USA) and Ivana BUDEN (CRO).
The newcomer from Germany was previously a pistol shooter. BERGER started archery two years ago and set a world record with 353 at 70m in a competition in her country in June last year. After she tied the best score of ANSCHUTZ in the first half, the German lost some ground shooting the 16th best score only in the second part of qualifications. With a total score of 690 she still maintained a top 8 position with a 6th place finish.
The highest mark of the second half (351) was achieved by the American VAN NATTA who improved from 9th to 4th place (695 in total). LOGINOVA also scored 351, and added to her 4th score in the first half (347), the Russian became 1st in total with 698. Second was the Italian TONELLI who also improved with 350 and a total of 696. Leader after 36 arrows the American ANSCHUTZ lost two places, 3rd on the same score as her teammate VAN NATTA but with one more 10 (51 v 50). A third U.S. archer, COLIN, finished just behind her two fellow countrywomen with 692.
Behind the German BERGER, 6th, the Croatian BUDEN and the Italian Anastasia ANASTASIO took the last top 8 places with 689 each. The latter made an important leap forward from 17th to 8th place. The Russian BALZHANOVA (688) and the American WATSON (686) were kicked out from the top 8, finishing 9th and 10th respectively.
