Quotes of the Team Eliminations
Antalya
Recurve Men
Jacob WUKIE (USA)
We have been shooting really well but had a couple of mistakes that cost us our 1/8 elimination match, and the Netherlands shot really well. I always enjoy shooting in Turkey and in this competition in particular. I’ve been shooting with the US team for a while. I’m in 3rd for the Olympic trials but there’s a lot of people that are in a good position, the spots are still up for grabs. Anybody can make the team.
Rick VAN DEN OEVER (NED)
We lost two times against the US but we have a strong team and we were very confident going into the 1/8 elimination round against them. This year we have a new member on our team, Sjef VAN DER BERG who is only 17 years old. Of course it’s a special feeling to beat the team that has Brady ELLISON, the number one archer in the world. We were 5th in Shanghai and hope to go further here.
Gael PREVOST (FRA)
We try not to put too much pressure on ourselves. We started the first elimination round against Chinese Taipei with a perfect end of 60 points and built up on that. We ended the match with a total of 230. We had already faced Chinese Taipei in Shanghai and had taken them out on the same score, they are definitely not luck to meet us (laughs).
Alan WILLS (GBR)
We had a tough quarterfinal match against Italy. We shot well even though the weather was getting very tricky. Larry GODFREY, Simon TERRY and I have been shooting together as a team since 2005-2006. We trust each other 100%.
Rahuhl BANERJEE (IND)
Last year we lost every tournament that we entered. We’re very happy with the way we shot today, considering that the wind was confusing. We are happy that we won our semifinal match against Korea because the previous round had not been so easy. We have defeated Korea several times in the past, but it’s the first time that we qualify for a World Cup gold medal final since Porec 2011 (India had placed 2nd to the USA). No one can say if we will win or lose the final. Great Britain are also strong, we have faced them several times in recent years. This victory against Korea, the best team in the world, gives us confidence. But the most important for us is the performance, not the result in the ranking. More than everything else we will focus on the last qualifying event to the London Olympic Games in Ogden.
Recurve Women
Kateryna PALEKHA and Lidiia SICHENIKOVA (UKR)
We shot well but weren’t lucky: our Indian opponents were too strong for us this morning. We are now going to compete in the European Championships and will then have the internal selection process to select the Ukraininan for the Olympic Games. We hope to win Olympic medals, both in the team and the individual events.
Nathalie DIELEN (SUI)
We were nervous. I thought I had shot good arrows, but when I looked at it on the target face, unfortunately it wasn’t. We usually have a good start at the beginning of a match: in Shanghai we shot 55 against Korea, here we scored 57 points versus Chinese Taipei. We are improving our shooting level and we hope to have a good day at the team event in Ogden.
Anna SZUKALSKA (POL)
We were really nervous for this event, not only because we were facing team USA. We tried to control the situation and we were leading the USA for a couple of ends. Unfortunately we shot a miss which meant we were out of the competition in an instant. Overall we are satisfied with our performance, because it shows that we can achieve good results against the “big” teams too.

Maico GOMEZ (VEN)
I felt some pressure shooting the 1/8 elimination round against France but we managed to stay in the game and the victory was ours. We never lost control of the match. It was a nice surprise to place 3rd in Shanghai, it’s something that we had worked hard for. It was something new for team Venezuela to actually make it. We had lost to France in semifinals in Shanghai and we are especially happy to win against them here in Antalya.
Isaiah SANAM (IND)
Today it just happened that one of the guys had an equipment failure, and we had no choice but to use only 2 instead of 3 bows. It’s the first time that it happened to us in competition. Our team managed to shoot very well despite that. We were neck-to-neck with the US team down to the last arrow but lost the match on the final arrow, which I believe was an 8.
Compound Women
Daisy CLARK and Andrea GALES (GBR)
We had a tough 1/8 elimination match against Australia, but we pulled in through in the end. It’s the first time that you shoot together as a team. We just take each match as it comes.
Ana CRISANTO (MEX)
Today Linda OCHOA could finally shoot with her own bow, which arrived this morning in Antalya. We lost to Russia for just one point in quarterfinals. We were two points ahead of them going into the last end, but the Russians outscored us with their final arrows.
Erika ANSCHUTZ (USA)
We shot really well today. The wind played tricks on us. We are very happy to be in the gold medal final. The other countries are getting better and better, they pose a challenge. It’s never easy for us.
Marcella TONIOLI (ITA)
It was the same semifinals as in Shanghai. Today it was not easy at all but we took our revenge on the Russian team. I cannot predict anything about tomorrow: to face the US team is always a challenge.
