Quotes of the Team and Mixed Team Finals

Recurve Men Team  Laurence GODFREY (GBR) – 1st place I feel fantastic. Solid performance, we all shot our level, it was a great team effort. We just shot our arrows and didn’t worry about what our opponent was doing. Last year we already won the team competition in the European Grand Prix. It’s a good performance but we still have to be on our game for the Olympic Games. It’s good confidence to take into London. We will treat it as the same as any competition.   Rahul BANERJEE (IND) – 2nd place We didn’t feel too much pressure but had some mistakes. The wind was also a factor. The Britons shot very well, better than we were expecting. In the previous matches we had shot really well but didn’t keep that level today. Today I had support from my sister Dola, who has been shooting for India for the last 6-7 years.   Thomas FAUCHERON (FRA) – 4th place I am pleased with my first match against Korea. It was a great experience to face this team. We came really close to beating them. I can’t wait to shoot against them again, and try to beat them! We shot well from the start and were really involved in the match. I think that we can beat them next time. They are afraid of us, they know we can beat them. We just need slightly better scores… All the finals that we shot this year give us confidence. We need an Olympic final to beat them (laughs). We are a young team with an average age of 20-21. We also have Thomas AUBERT who is very good but hasn’t shot today. We are a group of four archers pushing each other to be the best we can. In every World Cup competition, in every team match I learn things. I hope to be at the Games. I’m doing my best and try to bring as much as possible to the team in order to reach our goal of becoming Olympic champions.   Recurve Women Team   KI Bo Bae (KOR) – 1st place In the first end my teammates shot before me. They aimed at the centre and had good scores. So I aimed at the centre, too, but my arrows landed in the8 and the 7. Then I moved the sight pin and from then my scores were good. I’m happy because the team event is the most important of all for me.   Recurve Mixed Team   LEE Sung Jin – 1st place I’m very happy with these two first places in the team and mixed team event. It’s a good preparation towards the Olympics. I took part in the Shanghai and Antalya World Cup stages, I have good sensations but I don’t want to talk about what can happen next!   Compound Men Team   Reo WILDE (SA) – 1st place It’s pretty amazing to win because you have some control of what you do but not of what the other team does. I had two shoot-offs today, I guess I wanted to shoot some extra arrows (laughs). It’s the same for me to shoot the regular ends or a shoot-off: it still feels like you have to put the arrow in the middle. We opened the door for the Danes today but we were lucky that they didn’t take the opportunity.   Torben JOHANNESSEN (DEN) – 2nd place Here we were shooting against the USA… again and again and again, and I think again (laughs). We want to beat them so bad, we try to stay focused on the job we have to do out there, to not think too much. You clear your mind as much as possible, and then try to do what you do everyday on the practice field. We just joke around, all crazy kinds of things: is the guy paragliding above the beach going to crash? How far out on the sea do you need to go to do spear fishing? We just do anything to keep thoughts about archery away. It was our first shoot-off against the USA today. I overdid my shot, it didn’t hit where I wanted (8). You get nervous, you get tense in the body. And then you miss.   Peter ELZINGA (NED) – 3rd place I don’t think the outcome depended on the one bad arrow from Italy (6). We shot strong as a team as well. This is the first time that the three of us shot together in an international tournament like this. We practiced only for weeks before the qualifications. You need to adapt to each other, get to know each other as well, and find the right order: who shoots 1st, 2nd, 3rd. The result of the qualification round (where we placed 2nd) was better than we thought we could do. I’m the most experienced archer of the three. My teammates Ruben BLEYENDAAL and Mike SCHLOESSER are good archers as well. We tried to shoot in different orders during this final in order to see how it goes when I shoot first, when I shoot last... We are going to shoot together again at the European Championships in two weeks. We have to make sure that it all works together.   Compound Women Team   Erika ANSCHUTZ – 1st place We knew the Italians were going to be really tough opponents because they are great shooters. It’s not a surprise that we were neck to neck. It took us some time to adapt to the windy conditions but we ended up shooting well. Even though we shoot the team finals very often we still get nervous. It’s always different because we shoot against different athletes and under different conditions.   Anastasia ANASTASIO and Laura LONGO – 2nd place The final was exciting, because we were very close to the USA in the scores. Overall our performance wasn’t bad but we had a few bad arrows. The USA won, that’s all. We will win next time (smile).   Kristina BERGER (GER) – 3rd place In the beginning we were all very nervous. The training session that we had right before the final was actually the first one that we had as a team, because I’m new on this team. After scoring 52 points in the second end, we thought we would lose the match. We started shooting more relaxed and took the lead. The last three arrows 10-10-10 by Russia made us nervous again. To have to do a shoot-off didn’t matter much. After seeing the first Russian score an initial 9 in the shoot-off, our first shooter Melanie MIKALA thought she had no choice but score a 10, and she did. Then we just went on with two more 10s.   Compound Mixed Team   Reo WILDE (USA) – 1st place We thought the shots would alternate between the two teams, but the order was confusing, one athlete of each country shooting. I have to shoot the team final in a an hour, I’m going to practice before that.     World Archery Communication
