Namibia National Target Archery Championships

Strong gusty winds and dust made shooting quite difficult at times, but as the championship was outdoor the archers have been able to master these conditions. It is quite evident, that the standard of archery is steadily improving in Namibia, given that several records were broken in spite of the windy conditions. Some of the archers who have new records after their names are: Ø Sanders OBERHOLZER (Windhoek Field Archery and Bowhunting Club) – Standard Bow Ø Quinn REDDIG (Northern Archery Club) – Girls u/13 Ø Hanné SNYMAN (SKW Archers) – Girls u/13 Ø Babette TALJAARD (Northern Archery Club) – Girls u/15 Ø Hendre VAN EEDEN (Northern Archery Club) – Boys u/15 Ø Jackson ENGEL (SKW Archers) – Boys/15 Ø Sebastian FECHTER (SKW Archers) – Cadet Men u/17 Ø Rüdiger WOORTMAN (SKW Archers) – Masters Men over 50 Ø Iroleen VAN LITZENBORGH-PAGE (Sparta Archery Club) – Compound Women To the delight of the Archery Association of Namibia, several entries were also received in the recurve division, and here some noteworthy records have also been established. The recurve bow is currently the only bow which is accepted for Olympic participation. Johan GROBLER (SKW Archers) achieved new record scores over all the distances for the men's division Cub boy under 15. Xander REDDIG (Northern Archery Club) likewise set best marks over all the distances, and Cf BRANDT, in the under 13 age group, increased the scores over all the distances shot. The FITA Round was shot on Saturday. It involved 144 arrows and four different distances. This competition was used as a run up to the Championship which was decided on Sunday. Shooting in so-called "sudden death" individual elimination matches based on a seeding list, usually is quite a mental game, and this was then also reflected in the results. The champions for 2012 are: Compound Men: Francois MARAIS (2nd Louw NEL, 3rd Henk VAN BLERK) Compound Master Men: Frank BOCKMÜHL (2nd Trevor SPNCE, 3rd Rüdiger WOORTMAN) Compound Master Women: Teresa JARMAN Compound Women: Iroleen PAGE (2nd Beanta VIVIERS, 3rd Ilana MALAN) Compound Cadet Men: Ruan VAN STADEN (2nd Sebastian FECHTER, 3rd Joubert SNYMAN) Compound Cub Boys: Henre VAN EEDEN (2nd Jackson ENGEL, 3rd Mynhardt BEUKES) Compound Cub Girls: Babette TALJAARD Compound u/13 Boys: Danie OPPERMAN (2nd Tian GROBLER) Compound u/13 Girls: Hané SNYMAN (2nd Quinn REDDIG) Recurve Men: Johan GROBLER (2nd Pieter VAN EEDEN) Recurve Cub Boys: Xander REDDIG Recurve u/13 Boys: Cf BRANDT A special guest on Sunday was Ms Joan SMIT, representing the Namibia National Olympic Committee. During the medal ceremony, she spoke about the future of archery and encouraged all archers, but especially the recurve archers to practice hard and continuously with international goals and possibly qualification for future Olympic participation always on their minds.
