VALLADONT, KAMINSKI, RICHTER dominates quarterfinals in Recurve

Following the first round of eliminations this morning, the 8 best archers per category shot the quarterfinals in the afternoon. They shot three arrows at 12 targets, and the best 4 competitors advance to the semifinals which happen immediately after.
 Recurve Men The Olympians Jean-Charles VALLADONT (FRA) and Jake KAMINSKI (USA), who were the highest rank in the 1/8 elimination round, both shot 117 points to advance to the semifinals. They will be joined by Aurelien RABANET (FRA) and former world champion Jon SHALES (GBR).   Recurve Women With three Olympians competing, the recurve women round was a highly competitive field Olympian, Elena RICHTER (GER), dominated scoring 123 points placing her in 1st. It was tight for the remaining semifinal positions, however Zoe GOBBELS (BEL) and Marina SZENDEY (FRA) qualified with 113 points. Naomi FOLKARD (GBR), Olympian, took 4th place with 112 points, gaining one more point over the third competing Olympian and two times field world champion, Jessica TOMASI (ITA).   Home crowd favourite Sophie DODEMONT (FRA), who dominated the qualifications and the previous rounds, missed the semi-finals finishing 6th with 110 points.   Compound Men Without surprise, the Americans Jesse BROADWATER and the defending champion Dave COUSINS took the first two spots to advance to the semifinal. Slavko TURSIC (SLO) had a good round and finished 3rd. Sander DOLDERMAN (NED) defeated Antonio POMPEO (ITA) in a shoot-off for 4th place. Both archers shot a 5, but DOLDERMAN was the closest to the centre.   Compound Women The 2009 cadet world target champion Paige PEARCE (USA) shot her best round in this competition to finish 1st of the quarterfinals with 127 points, 4 more points than her closest opponent, Ivana BUDEN (CRO). Petra GOEBEL (AUT) claimed 3rd. Ulrika SJOWALL (SWE) was the last archer to qualify, edging out the defending world champion Anne LANTEE (FIN). Local favourite, Sandrine VANDIONANT (FRA) didn’t make semifinals despite the support of her Olympic team champion and husband, Michele FRANGILLI (ITA).   Barebow Men This round was marked by the elimination of the leader from qualifications David GARCIA FERNANDEZ (ESP) who finished 8th. Another Spaniard, Sebastian JUANOLA CODINA, qualified 1st to the semifinals. He will face Olivier ROY (FRA). The other semifinal position will go to Giuseppe SEIMANDI (ITA) who will face off against Alan EAGLETON (USA).   Barebow Women Eleonora STROBBE (ITA), 2010 world champion and 2009 World Games winner, finished 8 points ahead of her closest competitor with 110 points. She will face Andrea RAIGEL (AUT) in semifinals. RAIGEL beat the home crowd favourite Christine GAUTHE (FRA) in a shoot-off for the 4th place. Monika JENTGES (GER) and Lina BJORKLUND (SWE), who both scored 102 points in this round, will face each other in the second semifinal.   Junior Categories The top four also qualified advancing to the semifinals in the junior categories. Marco MORELLO (ITA) kept dominating the Recurve Junior Men. Sandra VAN DER LOOY (NED) was 1st in Recurve Junior Women.   The top four athletes in Compound Junior Men finished with the same score of 128 points! These are Mario VAVRO (CRO), Renaud DOMANSKI (BEL), Domagoj BUDEN (CRO) and Alex BRIDGEMAN (GBR).   Daisy CLARK (GBR) was the best Compound Junior Women of this round.   World Archery Communication
