Paralympic champion and World Cup Finalist Danielle BROWN awarded an MBE

Danielle BROWN, 24, won her second successive Paralympic gold medal with a thrilling victory over GB teammate Mel CLARKE in the women’s compound final at The Royal Artillery Barracks. She has also won three successive Paralympic world championship gold medals since 2007.   The British archer is not only the world’s best women’s compound para archer, but one of the world’s best among the able bodied, too – proving that beyond doubt when she won a silver medal at the 2012 World Cup Final in Tokyo. Despite such successes, Danielle BROWN remains a loyal and enthusiastic champion of Paralympic sport.   “This is such a wonderful honour, and a fantastic way to end 2012”, said the proud champion. "Winning a second Paralympic Games gold medal was a tremendous thrill, and to follow that with a silver medal at the World Cup Grand Final in Tokyo weeks later was amazing. But to be told I was featuring in the New Year Honours List has just blown me away, and has made it an extra special Christmas for me.”   “My family have been, and are, are so supportive, and this honour is for them as much as me”, she added. “This is also a tribute to Paralympic archery in this country, to my GB international teammates, to my coaches, and to all the support team who work tirelessly behind the scenes.”   Danielle BROWN became the second British international archer to be honoured nationally in 2012. Six time Olympian Alison WILLIAMSON received an MBE medal in the Queen Elizabeth II’s Birthday Honours List back in June last year.   The MBE stands for Member of the British Empire, and is among numerous awards given to nominated achieving citizens twice a year.   Peter JONES / Archery GB Edited by World Archery Communication
