Archery in the place of honour at a sport governance symposium
Lausanne

The symposium, organised by the Great Casablanca City Council, was about sport governance as success key factor for a good sport policy. It was held at Casablanca’s Sport Plazza, Africa’s biggest fitness centre.
Famous Olympic champions figured among the distinguished guests: IOC Member and Vice-President Nawal EL MOUTAWAKEL (MAR), first women’s 400m hurdles gold medallist at Los Angeles 1984; 35 times pole vault world record holder and IOC Member Sergey BUBKA (UKR), gold medallist at Seoul 1988; Hicham EL GUERROUJ (MAR), double gold medallist in 1500m and 5000m at Athens 2004 and silver medallist at Sydney 2000, as well as Jean-François LAMOUR (FRA), winner among others of two sabre individual gold medals at Los Angeles 1984 and Seoul 1988. H.E. Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman AL-THANI, Secretary General of the Qatar Olympic Committee, was also part of the attendees coming from sports bodies.
Archery was among Olympic sports featured through a Moroccan traditional archery exhibition, and a Moroccan national team demonstration composed of four men and four women. A Moroccan Royal Archery Federation (FRMTA) delegation headed by its new President, Adel RAJA, also attended the event.
Several guests, among whom Ms EL MOUTAWAKEL, succeeded in shooting some arrows after an archery introduction under the watchful and wise eye of FRMTA’s technicians (photo).
