First medals awarded in Riom for teams and mixed teams

First medals awarded in Riom for teams and mixed teams
Riom - 19 April 2013   The team competitions that took place this morning were an opportunity to discover young talents who are starting to make a name for themselves on the international stage.

Season opening tournaments are always an occasion to discover young new athletes. This year in Riom, Spain won a promising bronze medal in the recurve men division, after a convincing victory against Italy 194-186. The 18-year-old Miguel ALVARINO greatly contributed to this success.

"I am happily surprised by this result, because I was very nervous when I arrived in Riom. And it showed during qualifications: I did not shoot at my usual level", explained ALVARINO. "For this is fantastic, and I came to the conclusion that I do not train enough to be a contender at the international level and that I must practice more.  In the end this bronze medal is a motivation for the future", concluded ALVARINO.

France was the dominant country with victories in three gold medal matches out of a possible four. The hardest-fought gold medal final of the day was the recurve men's, which the French team won in a shoot-off thanks to a smooth final arrow by Olympian Jean-Charles VALLADONT.

The Russian recurve mixed pair made of Bolot TSYBZHITOV and Inna STEPANOVA won the title over Ukraine for just a point, 135-134. In the compound mixed team event, the French pair made of GENET-LEBECQUE won the gold medal - the second medal of thee day for both these archers.
