Archery makes its return to Eurosport

World Archery (WA) has signed a multi-media partnership with the Eurosport Group to showcase the increasingly popular Archery World Cup and World Archery Championships.

Eurosport has been the home of the Olympic Games and Olympic sports for over 20 years and will bring its knowledge and expertise to showcase this Olympic and Paralympic sport. Eurosport enjoyed positive ratings for archery at the London 2012 Olympic Games and will now reintroduce the Olympic core sport to its viewers.

Highlights of all the World Cup Stages will be broadcast on Eurosport and Eurosport 2 beginning with Stage 1, taking place this week, in Shanghai, China. Broadcasting of the first highlight is scheduled for June 5 (8:30 CET on Eurosport) and 6 (8:30 CET on Eurosport 2).

Live coverage of the Archery World Cup Final in Paris, at the foot of the Eiffel Tower, and of the World Archery Championships in Belek Antalya, will also be shown on Eurosport 2.

The World Cup Final in Paris will continue a now long tradition of archery events in some of the most spectacular locations in the world. Eurosport broadcast the 2006 Final from the Mayapan Pyramids in Mexico and the 2007 Final from Dubai, where World Archery built a 70-metre floating platform on the Madinat Jumeirah Lake with the famous 7-star hotel Burj Al Arab in the background. Since then, the World Cup has been staged at some of the most touristic  cities, such as, Lausanne, Copenhagen, Edinburgh, Tokyo and Istanbul.

Finally, an extensive communication plan will be run to showcase archery, and its sponsors Kia Motors and Longines, on Eurosport’s TV, online and mobile platforms throughout the year.

World Archery Secretary General Mr DIELEN said, “We are thrilled to be back on Eurosport, one of the main sports channel in Europe and a channel that has supported the Olympic Games for a long time. We are confident that Eurosport will offer us a platform in which archery can continue to grow. I also would like to thank our sponsors that have generously supported us to expand the sport of archery to where it is currently: an important, established Olympic sport that deserves a place on a premier sports channel, such as, Eurosport.”

Olivier FISCH – Commercial Director for the Eurosport Group said: “Following our positive experience with how archery was enjoyed by our viewers during the London 2012 Olympics we are pleased to be able to bring new archery programming onto Eurosport this summer. Eurosport can offer sports not only great exposure via television but also across our multi-media platform. Live action from the heart of Paris from the Archery World Cup final promises to be a very special televised event for new and existing fans.”
