Conquest Cup: Asia wins the first continental challenge

Asia started the afternoon session with two victories in the team matches that gave a crucial 4 points lead in the race for victory. Men’s team composed by ISHIZU, KIM and KUO beat GALIAZZO, VAN DER VEN and PREVOST. Then, the women’s team made of HAYAKAWA, YUN and LIN defeated FOLKARD, ERDYNIEVA and LOKLUOGLU. Asia edged in to a 4-8.

Europe hit straight back by winning the additional individual matches: BOZLAR avenged his loss from his morning match with newcomer VERMA and BJERENDAL defeated KUMARI reducing Asia’s lead to 6-8.

Last but not least, the mixed team matches were going to be decisive. This excellent archery showcase had a European pairing of FOLKARD and VAN DER VEN against Asians YUN and KUO. Asia taken a decisive victory after YUN and KUO overcame a stiff challenge from the Europeans to take the first ever continental challenge, 6-11. In the final mixed team match, LOKLUOGLU and PREVOST took the last 3 points for the European team, reducing the loss to 9-11.

Turkish Prime Minister, Mr Recep Tayyip ERDOGAN attended the last moments of the day, with fans and followers packing Okmeydani, and awarded gold medals and trophies to both teams. Mr Kadir TOPBAS, Mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality awarded Europe silver medals.
