Olympic Games: Archery reaches a higher sports grouping

These groupings are based on a series of objective factors that include TV ratings, popularity of a sport on the internet, social media, press articles and interest shown by the public universally. Archery, to go with its core sports status, has now been promoted to Group C (together with badminton, boxing, judo, rowing, shooting, table tennis and weightlifting).

World Archery President, Prof. Dr Ugur ERDENER stated: "Archery in 2006, started a strategic plan with a vision to make Archery an important Olympic sport at an international level in 2012. The IOC, today with the new grouping, confirmed that this vision has been completed. We thank all the athletes, officials, staff, broadcasters, spectators and members of the Archery Family for this great accomplishment. Archery is a loyal member of the Olympic Family and continues to work so that in Rio we will be even more successful.  We thank also the IOC for the incredible work done as part of this study.."

World Archery is now working on the next strategic plan which is to assist the Member Associations in achieving the same level of recognition nationally on a worldwide level.
