The World Archery 50th Congress precedes the World Championships 2013
World Archery‘s Congress takes place every two years; the edition the year after the Olympic Games reviews the rules of the sport.
A review of the rules took place based on the input of Athletes, Officials, the IOC, Television and other stakeholders. The outcome of this review is to propose changes to:
• the qualification round for the world championships,
• implement the set system for team and mixed team events,
• make the indoor rules consistent with the outdoor diversification between recurve and compound,
• enhance the universality and competitiveness of para-archery by changing the categories that compete at international para-archery events.
Congress delegates will discuss these matters on the morning of the first day. The afternoon will be dedicated to workshops on strategic planning, event presentation, development programs and social media.
The election of the World Archery President as well as the other Executive Board members will be a key decision. Prof Dr U?ur ERDENER, the current WA President, is the only candidate for the World Archery Presidency. Candidates from all five continents are in competition for the Executive Board positions.
The reports of the next World Championships hosting cities will also be among the major information that delegates will receive. Other important discussions will be focused on the preparation for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. A first report of Tokyo 2020 is also expected.
The Congress will also allow us to honour special contributions which include the awards related to the promotion of women in the World Archery family.
