Three East African countries jointly working on archery development
This technical course was funded by the Olympic Solidarity (OS) funded and welcomed 17 level 1 archery coaches from Rwanda, Somalia and Uganda. It was attended by 14 men and 3 women.
The key organiser was the former Olympian archer Mrs Margaret MWESIGYE (Sydney 2000) and her family (husband, son and a daughter), who all of them also attended the course.
Excepted a lack of entry level archery equipment, the course was well organised with the accommodation, food, classroom and practice range that were no more than 50m away. It helped a lot to create a cohesive group and the will for learning.
Several participants had a weak archery background, hence a low level in archery. Due to the above positive environment and the human relationships among the participants, organisers and expert, one must acknowledge and report the tremendous progress of all participants.
According to the expert, Mr Pascal COLMAIRE, WA Development and Education Director, it was one of the best Olympic coaching courses for archery coaches ever held in Africa, if not the best.
The three participating nations have already considered some additional development projects for after this successful course. They strongly consider an application to the Olympic Programme entitled Development of the National Sport Structure, including a special training of woodworkers to the making of local archery equipment; project that is already supported by the Uganda Olympic Committee.
African Archery is definitively under development. World Archery thanks all the people and organisations collaborating in this progress.
