Kiribati implements national archery structure

Yap Lee CHONG (MAS) was appointed by World Archery to conduct the project from September 2013 to January 2014.

CHONG first reviewed all the needs of the national federation, which were many from equipment, to management and volunteers. However, the determination and will of all those present young made him understand that these problems will be easily resolved.

Along with the national federation, they met with the Ministry of Sports to point the areas that required immediate action to implement and develop the sport. Especially, for the Olympic Solidarity programme to continue once his mission is completed and for the project to have a long-term impact for the development of archery.

In total 61 archers and coaches have trained with CHONG and all expressed their desire to be involved in the sport of archery. A one-year training plan has been set at a beginner level so that all parties involved have goals to reach by the end of 2014.

At the moment, 26 participants have been awarded a level 1 coaching certificate that will contribute to the development of archers at the club level. CHONG will follow up the activities in Kiribati in the coming months to see how the projects are proceeding.

World Archery would like to congratulate all parties involved for their appreciated and good initiative for the development of our great sport.
