World record breaker JONES falls to JONES
“I’ll calm down in five minutes,” the Brit said after walking back to her chair and leaking out a involuntary smile. “That was pretty nerve-racking.”
Edinburgh resident Naomi JONES is no stranger to world championships, big tournaments or Nimes. She won the 2012 world indoors in Vegas, and picked up titles at the Face2Face and European Tournament – in this very venue – last season.
Erika JONES was magnanimous in defeat: “She shot good. I shot fine, but she just shot better.”
The USA archer set a new world record for the 18-metre ranking round during qualification yesterday and was top seed in the compound women’s competition. “This is archery, anything can happen,” said JONES. “I take it day by day, arrow by arrow – and just try to do the best that I can.”
Naomi JONES won a place in a quarterfinal match with Pascale LEBECQUE, while Erika JONES prepares for the team eliminations this afternoon.

The World Archery Indoor Championships is underway in Nimes, France until 2 March 2014. Check the event website, Facebook page and – see the schedule and who’s competing.
