European hopefuls train for Nanjing together
Invited to join the 13 athletes on France’s Youth Olympic squad, young athletes from Belgium, Germany, Luxembourg and the Netherlands were in Vittel from 17 to 21 March.
The group included junior world champion Robin RAMAEKERS and European senior team silver medallist Sjef VAN DEN BERG, and shot individual, team and mixed team matches at 70 metres indoors.
The results of the friendly competition weren’t published – but when the athletes meet again at the World Archery Europe Youth Championships in Ljubljana, Slovenia in May, we’ll find out if this training camp worked.

France’s Youth Olympic boys squad – Thomas KOENIG, Lucas DANIEL and Thomas ANTOINE – won the junior team world title at Nimes 2014. They will take great value “from facing top youth archers in competition situations” before the outdoor season starts, according to French Federation Technical Director Benoît DUPIN.
Although the concept itself isn’t new, it is the first time in 10 years that France has run such a programme. If the athletes bring home medals from Ljubljana and Nanjing, it wouldn’t be much of a surprise to see more similar camps scheduled in the near future.
