Some shopping and a shoot: in a Medellin mall
The global Day of Sport for Development and Peace programme, established by the United Nations, inspired Medellin staff to put together a fan zone for the public at one of the most popular malls in the city. People who were expecting to pass the day with some light shopping picked up a bow and had the opportunity to try archery.
Alejandra USQUIANO, Colombian compound archer and current World Cup Final champion, showed off her considerable talent in an exhibition shoot, teaching the engaged crowd how to hit the middle.
People of all ages tested their skills against the country’s best – and learnt that archery definitely isn’t as easy as it looks! Some children even got signed up to lessons right away.
Tickets to the Medellin World Cup ranking round and eliminations stages from 13 to 16 May were up for grabs to those who dared “compete” in the fan zone.
The fan zone is part of an on-going programme in Medellin to take participation archery opportunities to public places and get more local people interested in the sport, ahead of the second World Cup event in the city.
