Belgium compound pair beat Colombia to Antalya 2014 mixed team title

Belgians Michael CAUWE and Sarah PRIEELS put on a show in the compound mixed team gold final at Antalya 2014. The pair dropped four arrows out of the 10 ring between them over the 16-arrow match.

“The conditions were great,” said CAUWE. “It was a bit tricky on the practice field, but much easier out there.”

Lining up opposite the 15-arrow individual match world-record holder Sara LOPEZ and Colombia, the pair carried a three-point lead they earned in the first end to the very end.

LOPEZ said afterwards of the Antalya event: “It’s the hardest stage because everyone is here; all the teams from Asia to Europe and the Americas.”

Great Britain led Slovenia throughout the compound mixed team bronze medal match and held a two-point lead heading into the last two arrows. Adam RAVENSCROFT, who’d been so reliable throughout the match, shot an eight.

Needing a 10 to tie, Adam’s partner – and sister in-law – shot a close linecutter 9-10. The judge called it out and the match and medal went to Slovenia.

“I got nervous,” explained RAVENSCROFT. “This is my second World Cup stage, but my first time out on the finals field. There’s a big crowd, everyone’s cheering along and so much stuff races through your head.”

Competition at the third 2014 Archery World Cup stage in Antalya runs from 11-15 June. Check scores, event news and visit World Archery’s Facebook page and @worldarchery on Twitter for coverage.
