USA guaranteed men’s and will shoot for women’s Pan-Am recurve titles
Olympic team silver medallist Jake KAMINSKI will take on Wuxi 2013 Youth team silver medallist Sean MCLAUGHLIN in the recurve men’s final at the Rosario 2014 Pan-American Archery Championships.
“I’m so pleased with this result,” a joyful MCLAUGHLIN said. “I set-up for this tournament at the last minute and now I’m in the final with Jake.”
Sean replaced this year’s Archery World Cup Champion Brady ELLISON who wasn’t able to attend the event due to personal reasons.
The States is also represented in the recurve women’s gold medal match. Five-time Olympian Khatuna LORIG, who is already training for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, will shoot against Colombia’s Natalia SANCHEZ.
SANCHEZ already collected the team gold medal.
“Every competition now is part of our preparation for the Olympic Games,” said Khatuna. “We expected to have good results here and to qualify for the Pan-Am Games in Toronto.”
The Olympian also referred to the level of the championships: “Mexico and the rest of The South American countries have been doing well in the last few years. It’s good to have opponents like them, and I think they can do better in the next years.”
In the recurve mixed team event Brazil won gold over Venezuela in a shoot-off. The bronze medal match went to a tiebreaker, too: where an impressive Colombia relegated the USA to fourth.
Colombia, Argentina and Puerto Rico were on the compound mixed team podium, in that order.
Americas Champions have already been decided in the recurve and compound team events – where Colombia won all four titles.
The Americas continental championships already decided both recurve and compound men’s and women’s team podium, were Colombia won all four gold medals.
Colombia can win two more golds in the compound individual finals when Daniel MUNOZ shoots against Leandro ROJAS (VEN) and Alejandra USQUIANO faces Linda OCHOA (MEX).
The recurve, compound and para mixed team finals all take place Saturday 25 October in the Plaza de Banderas – an iconic monument in Rosario city.
