New Zealand returns men’s Olympic quota place ahead of final qualifier

Archers mark their targets during the European qualifier for Tokyo 2020.

One more recurve men’s quota place has been added to the pool available at this weekend’s final qualifier for Tokyo 2020 in Paris, bringing the total to four.

There are also two recurve women’s quotas available.

The New Zealand Olympic Committee officially declined to send an athlete to fill the space, which was won at the last Pacific Games, and the deadline to appeal the decision expired today.

Athletes qualify quota places for their nations. It is ultimately the decision of a National Olympic Committee whether to accept the spots.

The final Olympic quota places will be awarded over the next few days in the French capital.

Before the final individual tickets are distributed on Monday, three men’s team quotas will be won on Saturday and then three women’s team invitations on Sunday. There are 70 countries competing for now 24 places in total.
