World ranking to include indoor and field events from October 2022
Up to four outdoor results, two indoor results and one field result will be used to calculate each archer’s position in the list, with events on the Indoor Archery World Series, world and continental field championships, and the field events at the World Games now offering world ranking points.
This change applies only to the individual able-bodied categories: recurve men, recurve women, compound men and compound women.
Team ranking calculations will remain based on four outdoor results and para calculation, now including doubles, on four para results.
Tournaments have been split into five groups that define the maximum available world ranking points. The events in the top group, each worth 100 points to the winner, are the Olympics, Paralympics, World Archery Championships and World Archery Para Championships.
For comparison, a 250-level competition on the Indoor Archery World Series, in group five, is worth a maximum of 20 world ranking points.
Archers will receive a fixed percentage of points depending on their final ranking position. Events will remain in the ranking for 24 months, although decrease to 75% of the initial value after 12 months, 50% after 16 months and 25% after 20 months.
The old quality-of-event modifier has been removed.
New lists will be issued weekly on Mondays, instead of every two weeks, when the system starts on 3 October 2022.
The new system is the first significant update to the world ranking calculation procedure in over a decade. It was announced earlier this year that the ranking will offer direct qualification spots for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
World Archery secretary general Tom Dielen said:
“This modernisation of the world ranking is in line with the increased importance and professionalism of our second tier of international events. This simpler system for calculating ranking points will also make it easier for teams to identify which tournaments to target.”
“We now have three clear and complementary ways to rank athletes: The indoor and outdoor circuit rankings that qualify athletes to the two season finals, and this cross-discipline Sanlida World Archery Ranking that truly identifies the world’s best archers.”
