1976 Olympic Champion Luann Ryon dies aged 69

The winner of the Montreal 1976 Olympic Games, Luann Ryon, has died according to reports from her family.

She was due to turn 70 in January.

Ryon shot then-Games records for the 1440 Round (1282) and double 1440 Round (2499) as she dominated the women‘s competition at the second Olympics since archery’s return to the multisport event.

She would also win the individual title at the world championships in Canberra one year later while leading the USA women’s team to gold.

Her last international event would be the 1983 World Archery Championships on home soil in Los Angeles, close to where she was born and lived much of her life.
