Five of six Olympic quotas awarded at Asian Games in Hangzhou

Korea’s win in the recurve mixed team event at the Asian Games finalised the awarding of the six available Paris 2024 Olympic quota places in Hangzhou.

The Korean women receive one quota place as the pairs gold medallist – rather than in the individual competition – as mixed team is given priority. (The recurve women’s final will be contested by two archers from Korea, too.)

No additional men’s spot will be given to Korea as the country already qualified a full team at the world championships.

This place will be retained for reallocation (in certain cases of returned places or nations upgrading to team quotas). If it is not awarded, it will be made available at the final qualifying tournament.

The two women’s individual quota places available in Hangzhou will go to China – courtesy either Hai Ligan or Li Jiamin, depending on which of them wins the bronze medal match at these home Asian Games – and fifth-placed Indonesian archer Diananda Choirunisa.

China adds a men’s spot, as does Mongolia, courtesy finalists Qi Xiangshuo and Otgonbold Baatarkhuyag.

The next opportunity for Asian archers to qualify for Paris 2024 is the Asian Archery Championships and Asian individual qualifier in early November. Continental spots will also be available at the Pan Am Games in Chile and African Championships in Tunisia before the end of the year.
