The upcoming Pan American Games in Santiago de Chile will not only crown champions in a full slate of 10 events – five recurve and five compound – for the first time, but also award six quota places to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Two spots will be awarded to the nation that wins the recurve mixed team event.

A further four places will be won by the two recurve men and two recurve women who finish highest in the individual competitions.

Countries can win a maximum of one spot per gender – there is no team qualifying in Santiago – and some nations have already secured quotas, making them ineligible to add extra.

Should it be necessary, the places will be reallocated down to fourth for the mixed team and eighth for the individual.

Quota tracker: 2024 Olympics

Americas nations with Olympic quota places arriving in Santiago. Correct as of 30 October.

  • BRA flag Brazil: 1 (1 man)
  • CAN flag Canada: 1 (1 man)
  • MEX flag Mexico: 3 (3 women)
  • USA flag USA: 1 (1 woman)

What if?

Brazil or Canada wins the mixed team competition… then they receive a women’s quota place and the men’s is returned, and ultimately added to the final qualification tournament should it not be reallocated further down the line.

Mexico or the USA wins the mixed team competition… then they receive a men’s quota place and the women’s is returned, and ultimately added to the final qualification tournament should it not be reallocated further down the line.

A country with a quota finishes first or second in an individual event… then the place is reallocated down to the next eligible archer in the final results list, starting with the bronze medallist, then fourth place (and so on), down to a maximum of eighth.

Key dates

  • Friday 3 November: Recurve eliminations
  • Sunday 5 November: Finals

It is possible that the individual Olympic places will be decided on Friday 3 November, should multiple archers from the same country make the final four of the individual events.

The pairs event takes priority in allocating the quotas. Since no team in the Americas won both a men’s and women’s spot at the primary qualifier – the 2023 Hyundai World Archery Championships in Berlin – no tickets will be officially confirmed until after mixed team finals on the morning of Sunday 5 November 2023.

Competition at the Pan Am Games starts with qualifying on Wednesday.
