Australia adds first Olympic archery quotas at Pacific Games

Australia has secured the last two Olympic quota places available this year courtesy Ryan Tyack and Laura Paeglis winning the recurve mixed team event at the 2023 Pacific Games in the Solomon Islands.

The pair beat New Zealand in straight sets in the final.

“It feels absolutely amazing to win this qualifier,” Paeglis told the Australian Olympic Committee. “This is my first opportunity to win a quota spot. Having done it, I’m over the moon.”

“The match is a bit of a blur now. I was nervous but the nerves seemed to power me.”

Two-time Olympian, and team bronze medallist at Rio 2016, Tyack was flagbearer for the Australian squad during the opening ceremony of this multisport event.

“We came into today with a game plan based on how we did yesterday. We executed and performed extremely well,” he said.

“I’m happy that we stepped up to the plate on the right day.”

Competition at the Pacific Games runs until Friday.

Qualifying for the archery competitions at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games continues with the individual quota event for Oceania in March of next year.
