Archery to offer 13 universality quota spots at 2024 Paralympics

Competition at the Fazza world ranking event in Dubai.

Thirteen quota places across five of the six competition categories will be issued as invitational tickets, designed to increase the universality of the competition, following the results of the final qualifier in Dubai last week.

There were initially eight available. Five were added due to French para athletes qualifying several spaces outright and returning host country spots.

The W1 men’s competition is the only category without a universality ticket. Five spaces are available across the recurve events (three men, two women), five will go to compound para archers (two men, three women) and there are now three for W1 women.

Thirty-eight National Paralympic Committees representing all five continents obtained spots through the qualifying process.

All nations can now apply for invitation places through the International Paralympic Committee’s extranet until 14 April 2024. Federations should contact their National Paralympic Committees, which must submit an application for any para archer.

(Candidates must have obtained the minimum qualifying score and be classified.)

Unlike the Olympics, for which there is a restricted list of eligible countries, the Paralympic universality process is open worldwide, regardless of whether a National Paralympic Committee has already qualified a quota, up to the maximum of two spaces per event.

World Archery and the International Paralympic Committee will assign the invitations, prioritising diversity while maintaining competition integrity.
