New faces triumph in tough conditions at U15 Gymnasiade

Youth archers from seven nations took medals in the archery competition at the Zlatibor 2025 ISF U15 Gymnasiade, which was held in Serbia from 4-14 April.
The biannual multisport school competition was launched in 2021 and is overseen by the International School Sport Federation, with this year’s edition featuring over 3,500 athletes in 25 sports, including four para sports – although not para archery.
The event is related to the much longer running U18 Gymnasiade – formerly called World School Summer Games or World School Sport Games – also run by the organisation.
Fifteen nations sent young archers to compete in Serbia, in snowy conditions.
China led the medal table overall, taking individual gold in both recurve categories with Zhang Minghao and Liu Han winning the men’s and women’s under-15 events respectively.
Athletes from Iran won individual compound, with Mehrdad Behrouzi taking the men’s and Helia Hazratian taking the women’s honours. The duo also took the mixed team compound title.
The team titles were split across China, Chinese Taipei, Türkiye and Iran, with Estonia and Serbia also taking medals. The compound category only saw a mixed team event at this edition.
The competition will return in 2027, with a host country yet to be determined.
