D’Almeida puts on clinical display in recurve men’s final at Antalya 2025

Marcus D’Almeida left no doubt in the recurve men’s final at Antalya 2025, delivering a clinical performance to claim individual gold at the third stage of the 2025 Hyundai Archery World Cup.
The Brazilian, who was top seed after qualifying and recently won the South American Championships title, breezed through the finals. He dispatched Germany’s Jonathan Vetter – who had already won silver in the team event – 6-0 in the semifinal, before repeating the scoreline against neutral athlete Buianto Tsyrendorzhiev in the gold medal match, dropping four 11s in each match.
It was a statement performance in a venue that had historically eluded him. D’Almeida lost a tight shoot-off to Kim Woojin in last year‘s final in Türkiye – his eighth appearance in Antalya – but this time left nothing to chance.
His dominant victories at Antalya Beach Park showed no signs of an archer bothered by the past, however, and he has now booked himself into his fifth Hyundai Archery World Cup Final in Nanjing, the city where he first met his wife during the 2014 Youth Olympic Games.
“Last year I was so close to the gold medal because of the Woojin shoot-off, but today it was the best way – 6-0 – and I got the gold back home,” said world number three. “In the South American Championship, I shot well, my feeling was good, and I just brought that feeling to here and that [the gold] happened.”
The win is extra special for D’Almeida, whose mother’s birthday fell on qualification day – when he took pole – and whose sister celebrates her birthday the day after his victory.
“My mum always says, ‘Do your best’. And now tomorrow is my sister’s birthday – so it’s a great week and a big party week,” he laughed.
Known for his calm and focused demeanour, D’Almeida showed little emotion until the final arrow – an 11 – hit the target. He rarely celebrates mid-tournament, preferring to stay locked in until the job is done.
That laser focus contrasts with the more animated Tsyrendorzhiev, who bounced onto the stage with star jumps and smiles – but it’s working for D’Almeida, who adds Antalya to his growing list of career highlights that includes bronze at the 2023 World Archery Championships in Berlin.

The biggest upset this week was the Korean men failing to make the final four – a rare result – but Korea’s women once again lived up to their lofty standards.
Paris 2024 Olympic Champion Lim Sihyeon took gold in a dominant straight-sets victory over Tokyo 2020 gold medallist An San, completing a Korean one-two on the podium for the second consecutive stage after Shanghai. Lim has now beaten An twice this season, also defeating her in the quarterfinals last month in China.
“Based on my experience in Shanghai, I tried to approach things a bit differently here in Antalya, especially with my posture, and I think it worked out well,” said Lim, who lost to Lee Gahyun in China.
In the recurve men’s bronze medal match, 18-year-old Baptiste Addis delivered a strong performance to defeat five-time Olympic medallist Brady Ellison and step onto his first individual World Cup podium.
In the women’s match, USA’s Casey Kaufhold overcame Japan’s Waka Sonoda to secure her second individual World Cup medal – adding to her gold from Paris 2023.
The fourth and final stage of the 2025 Hyundai Archery World Cup takes place in Madrid on 8–13 July.
