Andrea Becerra tipped for World Games athlete of the year 2025
Mexico’s Andrea Becerra has been shortlisted as archery’s nominee for the World Games’ athlete of the year award 2025, joining a select group of 30 elite athletes from across all sports disciplines at the event.
The 25-year-old compound specialist enjoyed a landmark season on the international circuit, delivering consistent top-level performances across the World Cup, World Games and world championships.
Becerra claimed her first Hyundai Archery World Cup individual gold medal in Central Florida in April and added a second title later in the season in Antalya. She also secured gold in the compound women’s event at the Chengdu 2025 World Games, reinforcing her position among the sport’s leading athletes.
Her most significant achievement came at the Gwangju 2025 Hyundai World Archery Championships, where Becerra became the first Mexican woman to win an individual world title in compound archery. The historic victory helped propel her to world number one in her category.
Becerra’s outstanding season has also been recognised at home, with the archer and her coach Karen Montellano honoured at Mexico’s National Sports Award 2025 in November.
Fans are encouraged to support the Mexican archery star in the exciting race for this prestigious honour.
Public voting opens on 12 January 2026 on the organisation’s website.
On 26 January, the 10 highest-ranked candidates will advance to the final voting stage, with all vote counts reset to zero. Final voting continues until 2 February.
The World Games is a multisport event held every four years, featuring a wide range of sports and disciplines, including compound target archery, and recurve and barebow field archery.
The 13th edition of the World Games will take place in Karlsruhe in 2029. The German city will become the first to host the multisport event twice, having previously staged the third edition in 1989.
