Jimmy Lutz breaks 10-year-old compound world record with 719

James Lutz set a new world record at the 2026 Gator Cup.

USA’s compound archer James ‘Jimmy’ Lutz broke the compound men’s 72-arrow 50-metre qualification world record with 719 out of a possible 720 at the 2026 Easton Foundations Gator Cup in Newberry, Florida, on 18 April.

The mark is subject to ratification.

Lutz dropped just one point across 72 arrows, surpassing the previous record of 718 set by Braden Gellenthien in July 2016.

The 2019 World Archery Champion and 2024 Hyundai Archery World Cup Final winner finished three points clear of the field, with Mike Schloesser second on 716.

The performance came at this year’s Gator Cup, one of the largest international tournaments on the calendar, attracting more than 800 archers to Florida.

It follows a series of recent high-scoring performances in compound men’s qualification, including Sebastian Garcia Flores shooting 719 earlier this season, one point shy of a perfect 720 a Mexican record that was not recognised as a world record as the event was not registered on the international calendar.

Across disciplines, scoring standards continue to rise, with Korea’s Olympic Champion Kim Woojin also setting a new recurve men’s world record in September.
