Oscar DE PELLEGRIN named flag bearer of Italy for the London 2012 Paralympic Games Lausanne – 6 June 2012 At Turin 2011 World Archery Para Championships    The Italian Paralympic Committee chose the archer Oscar DE PELLEGRIN as flag bearer of the Italian delegation at the London 2012 Paralympic Games.
Born in Belluno, Italy in 1963, Oscar DE PELLEGRIN will make his sixth Paralympic appearance in London. In the five previous editions he competed in shooting and archery, winning a total of five medals.
In shooting, DE PELLEGRIN won a gold medal in Barcelona 1992 and a bronze in Atlanta 1996. In archery, he won a team gold medal and an individual bronze in Sydney 2000, and one additional bronze medal in Beijing 2008. He won 58 national titles, and broke 11 national records and two world records.   Following his Paralympic title in 2000, DE PELLEGRIN received the official title of "Commendatore" (Knight Commander) of the Republic of Italy and the "Collare d’oro" (Golden Collar) from the Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI).
The President of the Italian Paralympic Committee Luca PANCALLI said about DE PELLEGRIN’s nomination as flag bearer that "It is a well-deserved honour for a great sportsman who has given and will continue to give so much to Paralympic sports".
"It’s a strong emotion, I’m so excited," said Oscar DE PELLEGRIN after learning the news. "I thank all the members of the Paralympic Committee. It’s a great honour for me and a reward for my whole career. It gives me the motivation to give so much more to this movement and to spread the values of the sport"
The Vice-President of FITARCO and of the World Archery Federation Mario SCARZELLA expressed his gratitude: "Oscar deserves this honour. He is a great man and a great athlete who has done a lot for Italian and international archery."   World Archery Communication
