The Indoor World Championships 2009 officially open
Rzeszow (POL) – 4 March 2009
The Secretary General of the State Mr Wladyslaw STASIAK declared the Indoor Archery World Championships Rzeszow 2009 opened during an exciting opening ceremony in the town Sports Arena. FITA Vice President Paul PAULSEN made the official opening speech.
“It’s a dream come true. Rzeszow will be for some days the capital of archery and we hope all the participants will remember it as a place of hospitality and sports excellence,” said Local Organising Committee’s President Jacek TROJNAR. Representing FITA President, Mr PAULSEN mentioned that “FITA is happy to come back in a historical region for the federation. Effectively, it was created in Lwow, formerly a Polish city and now Ukrainian, close to Rzeszow”.
The 2007 world champions Nami HAYAKAWA (JPN), Eugenia SALVI (ITA), Braden GELLENTHIEN (USA) and Berengere SCHUH (FRA) were the FITA flag’s bearers, while Polish Olympians Justyna MOSPINEK, Malgorzata CWIENCZEK, Rafal DOBROWOLSKI and Jacek PROC carried their country’s flag.
The ceremony ended with a dance festival by international prize winning groups such as the traditional Poxoniny and the modern Kornele. Finally, the young talent Hubert BISTO sang the official song of these championships.
