Ogden (USA) – 17 July 2009
Olympic champions
S. FAIRWEATHER (AUS) and J.C. HOLGADO (ESP)
Today in Ogden, Utah (USA), was the qualifications day for the 2010 Singapore Youth Olympic Games. Read some quotes from competitors:
Juan Carlos HOLGADO – FITA Event Director
On the event
“We have a smooth event here in Ogden. The Organising Committee is doing a great job and you can see that the archers are having fun. The level of performances during the week has been astonishing with many world records. Today we are happy that some young archers have taken a step towards their Olympic dream.”
Recurve Men
Atanu DAS (IND) – Silver medal
On his performance
“The competition was really nice. I was eliminated yesterday, so this time I pulled myself together in order to shoot well.”
On his knotted red bracelet
“It’s a lucky charm that comes from a temple in India.”
Jafet FARJAT (MEX) – 4th place
“I feel really confident here. I’ve been shooting better and better. I had a great time competing today. I enjoyed shooting against Korea, the most powerful nation in recurve.”
Recurve Women
ZHU Jiani (CHN) – Gold medal
“I am very happy. Really I am delighted! I was confident that I could win today and finished in 1st place.”
Miranda LEEK (USA) – 8th place
“This morning I started strongly in practice. I shot pretty well. I am always nervous in my first match and felt better in the following ones. And then my quarterfinals match didn’t go so well from the beginning. I had bad arrows, bad ends. But I was really glad to shoot against Korea. I was looking forward to it! I lost but there’s always next year. I’m glad because I’ve improved a lot from last year.”
