Team medals for Korea, Great Britain and Spain!

Photo © Dean ALBERGA   Friday 21 August saw the culmination of the team events for all classes.   The day started with the recurve women’s category. The main interest for the home crowd was the gold final where Czech Republic was pitted against Korea. Korea, however, was in unstoppable form and went out the winners (193-164). The hotly contested bronze match saw Turkey take the bronze from Ukraine (189-185).

In compound women, Turkey again won the bronze, this time from Spain (213-200). The Great Britain team, all of whom will be in the individual finals tomorrow, had a comfortable victory over Japan (214-206) to clinch the gold medal.

The sun continued to shine for the men’s events. The recurve class saw a delighted Russian Federation overcome the Koreans (195-187) to win the bronze. The gold final was a very close match between Spain and Turkey with Spain eventually winning (194-191).

The bronze medal match in compound men was between the Russian Federation and Germany and was again very close with the teams tying at various stages of the match. Germany won the match (216-213) to receive the medal. The final match of the day was for the compound men’s gold between Great Britain and Korea. The match was tied several times and GBR started the last end 1 point behind. It had then become quite windy but Korea continued to shoot solidly and took the gold medal (215-212).

By this time, the clouds were rolling over and there was a distinct threat of rain. Fortunately, this held off until after the medal ceremony.

On Saturday we will have all individual finals.
