“LIVE” - Compound Women Elimination Matches

Today archery fans were able to follow LIVE reports of Compound elimination matches. 

Five rounds were contested at the Festwiese this Wednesday starting with the Women 1/64 at 9:30 am (local time). 
  1st round: Mahboubeh (IRI) – Shabani (IRI) Shabani is the find of the year (4th place at the World Cup stages in Ulsan and Varese and 5th place in Antalya). Although she strong in qualifications, she has always been good in elimination matches. She proved it again against her team-mate Mahboubeh in this first round match. Shabani led 55-51 after the first six arrows and finished with 10-10-9-9-8-10 to win the match 111-103. 2nd round: Goncharova (RUS) – Paz Maar (PHI) – World Champion is out! The reigning World Champion Goncharova must have felt the pressure with a bad start in her match. She was trailing 54-57 after six arrows. She came back strongly in the second end, shooting 10-9-10-9-10-9 and Paz Maar could barely hold on. She shot 10-10-10-9-7 and a liner 8. This point was enough to defeat the World Champion! Final score: 112-111. 2nd round: Fabre (FRA) - Shabani (IRI) Shabani came close to beating the no. 9 seed, but could not make it. The match was tied after six arrows at 57-57 and 84-84 after nine arrows. Fabre pulled out a 10-10-9 at the end and Shabani only managed 9-X10-8. Final score: 113-111. 2nd round: Chesse (FRA) - Anastasio (ITA) Another very close match with the Outdoor and Indoor Junior World Champion, Anastasio, against Chesse. The Italian felt the pressure and shot a 7 on her second arrow, but the match was tied at 56 after six arrows. Chesse was very consistent and shot 9-9-9-9-10-10 in the second end. Anastasio shot an 8, three 10s and two 9s. The match was tied at 112 and went to a shoot-off! Anastasio could not hold her nerve and shot an 8. Chesse won with a 9 and went on to meet team-mate Fabre in the next round. 

Anastasio said: “I was afraid I would run out of time and although my body position was bad, I shot my second arrow. I scored that 7. I was very impressed to be here. I am enjoying my first elite World Championships but I am also disappointed with the loss.” 3rd round: Van Natta (USA) – L. Ochoa (MEX) Linda Ochoa gave Van Natta a hard time as she was trailing by only one point after six arrows (55-54). However, Van Natta gave no chances to her opponent, shooting a strong 59 in the second end. Van Natta won 114-107. Linda’s sister Almendra also lost in this round to the Korean, Seo.   3rd round: Fabre (FRA) – Chesse (FRA) Chesse could not really compete with her team-mate today, shooting a low 51 in the first end. Chesse did better in the second end with a 57, but Fabre controlled the match with 9-9-9-9-9-10. Fabre won this 100% French match 112-108. 3rd round: Kazantseva (RUS) – Paz Maar (PHI) Kazantseva avenged her team-mate defeat Goncharova. She was led 55-52 after six arrows and did not let go on the second half. Both archers shot 10-10-10-10-9-9, so Kazantseva won 113-110.     3rd round: Ferris (AUS) – Bouillot (FRA) This match was tied after six arrows: 56-56. However, Bouillot let not chance to her opponent shooting 59 out of 60 in the second end to win the match 115-113. Bouillot went on to meet team-mate Fabre in the next round. 3rd round: Ericsson (SWE) – Flores (VEN) No. 3 seed Ericsson struggled in her match. The archers were tied at the end of the match with 112 each. Ericsson won the shoot-off. She did not shake and she almost hit the bull’s eye (just one centimetre of the centre of the target). Her X10 was better than the 9 shot by Flores.   3rd round: Salvi (ITA) – Hansdah (IND) This match between two possible medal contenders was very close. The Italian and Indian ladies tied the match at 112 and Salvi won the sudden-death extra arrow shoot-off 10-9.     1/8 round: Kazantseva (RUS) - Van Natta (USA) This was the blockbuster match of the round. Kazantseva, ranked 2 in the world was seeded 15 in Leipzig and Van Natta, the world no. 3 seeded 2 after the qualifications. The first end was close. Kazantseva shot X10-9-10-10-8-10 for a total of 57. Van Natta shot 9-10-8-10-10-9 for a total of 56. The wind just rose before the third arrow of Van Natta and that could explain her 8. In the second end, Kazantseva took a decisive advantage with the 7th arrow: she shot a 10 while her American opponent had an 8. They then both scored two 9s and Van Natta continued with a 10, while Kazantseva had a 9. However, the Russian held on until the end, finishing with 9-10, while the US archer shot 9-9. Total score: 113-110 to Kazantseva.   1/8 round: Soemod (DEN) – Markovic (NED) Markovic created a surprise in the previous round defeating Willems (BEL) 113-110. The wind picked up a little bit for her next match against Soemod and neither archer shot really well. Markovic led 53-52 after six arrows -Soemod shooting a 7 and an 8. Soemod came back with 7th arrow, shooting a 10 against Markovic’s 9. Both archers finished very strong with their last three arrows, shooting 10 or X10 (in both cases 10 points). The score was a tie at 110, and a sudden-death shoot-off followed! Markovic shot a 9 and Soemod just missed the 9 by a few millimetres allowing Markovic another upset!   1/8 round: Fabre (FRA) – Bouillot (FRA) This second French duel turned to the advantage of the young, talented Bouillot. The two archers both shot 54 points in the first end. But Fabre shot a low sequence of 10-7-8 with her next arrows. Bouillot did not miss the opportunity scoring 9-9-10 and she did not let go with her last arrows to clinch the match 109-107.   1/8 round: Anschutz (USA) – Seo (KOR) The no.1 seed Anschutz was next on the list of upsets in this crazy day! She had a bad start with 9-8-9-9-10-9 for a 54-point end. Seo scored a strong 10-10-8-10-10-10 for a total of 58 points at the half-way. The American did better with 57 on the second end, but the Korean did not shake scoring another 58. Final score: 116-111 to Seo! NB: Archers start shooting four ends of three arrows from the quarter-finals on. 1/4 final: Kazantseva (RUS) - Markovic (NED) Markovic continued her great run! Both archers started with a perfect 30, but then the wind started blowing and it started raining. Markovic continued well and reached 58 points after six arrows, while Kazantseva had 56. The Russian came back to one point in the third end, trailing 84-85 after nine arrows. The decision came down to the final arrow: Markovic shot 10, while Kazantseva scored a disappointing 7. Markovic 112-109!! 1/4 final: Buden (CRO) – Salvi (ITA) The Indoor silver medallist proved that rainy conditions did not affect her! She started superbly with 59, whereas Buden shot 54. Salvi scored all 9’s in the second half of the match. Buden tried to come back, but failed by one point, leaving victory to Salvi on a final score of 113-112! 1/4 final: Loginova (RUS) - Chan (PHI) In another quarterfinal match, the first end was tied with 28 points each. However, the Russian archer made the difference in the second end, shooting a perfect 30 while her opponent from the Philippines only shot 27. Chan tried hard to come back, but she could not manage to overtake Loginova. The Russian finally won the match with a single point advantage 112-111. 1/4 final: Seo (KOR) – Bouillot (FRA) This quarter-final was a very tight match, as the first three ends were tied at 29, 57 and 85 points. The last three arrows were decisive, as Seo shot a bad 8 and two 9s, while her French opponent also shot two 9s, but one 10 as well. Bouillot clinched the match 113-112.     FITA Communication
