Göteborg, 30 years later !

The 20th Field World Championships officially got underway with the Opening Ceremony taking place at the “Trädgårdsföreningen”, a beautiful garden in the heart of Göteborg.

The President of the Swedish Archery Association, Mr. Lars Liljenstople, welcomed the 230 archers from 28 countries worldwide. He reminded to the audience the winners of the 1976 Field Archery World Championships, which already took place in Göteborg, and wished good luck to all the successors. The mayor of Göteborg, Mr. Jörgen Linder, wished that these Championships would be as successful as the European Athletic Championships that were hosted just two weeks ago. Finally, FITA 1st Vice President, Mr. Paul Paulsen (NOR) thanked Bo Palm and all the Organizing Committee for the tremendous work accomplished to welcome all the participants, before the musical party took over.

For the first time in FITA history, two oaths were promised by an athlete and a judge, respectively by the local club Lindome member, Petra Ericsson, and Chairman of Judges, Morten Willman (NOR).

This Opening Ceremony was attended notably by Berryl Arvehell (SWE), Swedish Archery Association Honorary President, Kay Johanssson, Chairman of the city Council of Mölndals and Lena Vikström, the CEO of Gunnebo Slott, where the competition will start tomorrow for both seniors and juniors !
