Dudley over Freeman in 3rd shoot-off arrow
The over-time thriller of these two champions in Compound Men was one of the highlights of the afternoon. In Compound Women, four archers went to shoot-off. We are now down to four archers per category, who will meet in the Finals Saturday.
The top 8 archers of each category were shooting on Thursday afternoon around the Gunnebo castle. They all had one goal in mind: be as close to perfect and make the top 4 cut to play in the Finals on Saturday.
Compound Men
Nothing but perfection was enough in Compound Men. Local star Morgan Lundin, Dave Cousins (USA) and the surprising Axel Langweige (GER) did not drop a single point in the 12 target course, scoring a perfect 180 pts. John Dudley (USA) and Clint Freeman (AUS) had to go to shoot-off after scoring 179 pts each. They both shot two 5 in their first two arrows. On the third arrow, Dudley barely hit the 5, opening some room for Freeman. The Aussie could not take advantage shooting low on the 4 ring. Nevertheless, the handshake of two true champions shows all the emotion of a shoot-off and the respect between them.
Compound Women
Jamie Van Natta (USA) showed she can raise her level when it matters – she scored 179 pts, followed by her teammate Jahna Davis with 175 pts. The two last spots before the Final gave way to another incredible shoot-off between… four (!) archers: Silke Hoettecke (GER), Gladys Willems (BEL), Françoise Volle (FRA) and Ingrid Olofsson (SWE). They all hit the 5 with their first arrow, but only Silke and Gladys could sustain the pressure in the 2nd arrow. They both scored 5 again and qualified for the final.
Recurve Men
The Italian Michele Frangilli just seems unstoppable, scoring 175 pts, ahead of German Sebastian Rohrberg and American Vic Wunderle. For the 4th place, Jean Michel Piquet (BEL) took the best over the Swedish legend Göran Bjerendal by only one point - 167 to 166 pts. This is the end of a great come back for the club member of Lindome.

Recurve Women
The Swedish have good news and bad news in this category. Elin Kattstrom was 1st with 167 pts, but Petra Ericsson fell to 5thwith 162. The cut being set at 164 pts, it is who Dolores Cekada (SLO), Naomi Folkard (GBR) and Sophie Dodemont (FRA) reached it.
Barebow Men
Story repeated itself as in the Recurve Women: Matthias Larsson 1st …and Martin Ottosson at a disapointing 5th. Italians Giuseppe Seimandi and Sergio Cassiani as well as Slovenian Miha Kosec went through eliminations.
Barebow Women
Austria invited itself to Saturday’s finals with Compound Women archer Reingild Linhart. She will then face Luciana Pennacchi (ITA), Christine Gauthé (FRA) and Monika Jentges (GER).
Sweden took 4th first place in the junior category. Only Juuso Huhtala (FIN) broke the hegemony in Recurve Junior Men.
Tomorrow Friday, the team competition all the way to the gold medal will take place in the surroundings of Gunnebo House.
