The Compound Team event is currentely taking place. The Men's Dutch team just set a new World Record in this fantastic field of Polideportivo Merliot. Peter Elzinga, Fred Van Zutphen and Emiel Custers achieved 238 pts out of a maxium of 240 pts ! Tommorrow in the final, they will have a shot a beating the combined world record for two matches, which the American team has set this afternoon at 465 pts. The Dutch will play Brazil in the men's final, while Great Britain will play Mexico in the women's one.

In Women Recurve Teams, ITA shows great consistency. They will meet TUR Team, while the ITA Recurve Men Team will meet great MEX  Team in the Gold Final.

Compound Women Team

In the afternoon session, the ¼ Final begun with matches between El Salvador and Great Britain (214-216), Venezuela and Dominican Republic (219-202), and between Puerto Rico and Mexico (181-210), USA, 1st of the Qualifications, had a by for the first match.

In the Semi Finals, USA Team met with British Ladies in a match led by Great Britain up to the end, to win 213-210 and send them directly to the Gold Medal Match. The second Semi Final match was Venezuela vs Mexico. This was a pretty tied match, led by one single point in the 1st second ends in the advantage of Mexico. In the 3rd end Mexico scored 165 while Venezuela only scored 158, and finally Mexico won the match 222-211. Mexico goes on to the Gold Medal Match tomorrow afternoon against Great Britain.

The Bronze Medal Match held right after the Semi Final was between USA and Venezuela. The first end was in the advantage of USA by 2 points (56-54), they then increased the advantage in the second and third end, to finally win the match 225-218.

Compound Men Team

In the ¼ Final, USA met Puerto Rico team to win 233-219, while the powerful Netherlands Team met Venezuela to win 233-223. The matches between Brazil and El Salvador, and Great Britain vs Mexico were very tough and tied, but at the end, Brazil got the last word on El Salvador team to win 220-218, and Mexico prevailed on the British Team 227-223. The Mexican Delegation came stronger to this competition and attracted the attention on them.

In the Semi Finals, USA shot against Brazil Team, in which the Antalya World Cup winner was shooting, in a very tied match. In the 1st two ends, Brazil was leading by 1 point, but suddenly the Americans tied the match in the 3rd end (173-173). Brazil got its acts together to shoot 59 pts in the last end, while USA only shot 51 pts, loosing the match 224-232, Brazil goes for Gold !

The second semi final gathered Mexican Team and Netherlands Team together. Mexico was led by 2 pts in the 1st end, and then by 5 pts in the 2nd end, the led increased in the 3rd end with an impressive Netherlands Team who shot almost perfect scores (59-119-179) to finally beat the Mexican Team 238-227 and also beat the 24 Arr. Match World Record by 3 pts to set it at 238 pts ! They will then meet the Brazilian guys tomorrow afternoon to fight for Gold.

In the Bronze Medal Match, USA vs Mexico, the 1st end was tied 56-56, but in the 2nd end the US Team made the difference by 2 pts leading the match 116-114. They increased the lead by 6 pts in the next end to finally win the match and the Bronze Medal 236-228. The Mexicans could not go further than that !

Recurve Women Team

In the ¼ Final session, CHN beat MEX 214-193, while TUR also beat VEN 213-197. In the ITA vs USA match, ITA got the last word by winning 207-197. The most interesting match play of the ¼ Final is certainly COL vs. GBR who were tied after the 1st end with 48 pts each, then in the 2nd end, GBR took the advantage by 2 pts with 105-103, and GBR kept its consistency on the 3rd end scoring 161-150, to win in the last end 213-199.

In the first Semi Final, CHN met with TUR, in a pretty tied match in every single end. In the 1st end CHN scored 54 and TUR 55, leading by one point. In the 2nd end, TUR increased its advantage by 3 pts against CHN scoring 111-108, then CHN got its acts together and tied the 3rd end 162-162. The 4th end was conclusive in the advantage of TUR for one single point (215-214). Turkey Team will then shoot the Gold Final tomorrow afternoon in the Olympic Stadium.

The second Semi Final, which decided of the opponent of CHN in the Gold Final tomorrow, was between ITA and GBR. In the first two ends, GBR Team was leading the match, but then ITA tied the 3rd end scoring 150-150. This score encouraged the ITA girls and made them win the match with 5 pts ahead of the British girls (206-201). So ITA will be shooting for Gold tomorrow against CHN.

In the Bronze Medal Final Match, which was shot right after the Semi Finals in the Polideportivo Field, CHN met with GBR, in a very interesting match, where in the 1st end each Team scored 53 pts. The lead was then taken by GBR in the 2nd end scoring 110-105, and continued in the same vein in the 3rd end, getting the upper hand 161-159. The 4th end surprised everyone, as the Chinese Team shot 55 pts and GBR only shot 52. The Chinese girls win the match by one point scoring 214-213, letting the British Team deceived.

Recurve Men Team

In the ¼ Final session, ITA beat VEN Team by 218-207, and MEX beat CAN Team by 213-210. The most interesting and surprising matches of the ¼ Final were GBR vs NED, where GBR was always in front of the Dutch guys, those who qualified for the Individual Gold and Bronze Medal matches, GBR wins the match 224-221, although in the last end the Dutch Team scored 56 pts, while GBR scored only 52. The second interesting match was played between CHN and ESA Team, where after the 2nd end ESA was leading by 1 point, unfortunately for them, the Chinese Team followed their women teammates steps, by getting their acts together and winning the match by one point 220-219.

The Bronze Medal Match saw the same teams than the Ladies, Great Britain vs China, but this time Great Britain took the upper hand on the Chinese Team in 3 out of 4 ends, and got the last word in the last end scoring 220-212.

The 1st Semi Final gathered the Italy and Great Britain Team together, where Italy leaded every single end making them win the match 225-214 and making them go ahead to shoot for Gold tomorrow afternoon in the Olympic Stadium. The second Semi Final was shot between China and Mexico, where the surprising Mexico Team led every single end shooting very well, while the China Team did not make as well as they should, shooting on the right side of the target scoring 6s and 7s. The final result in advantage of Mexico was 217-212 making them shoot against Italy for Gold tomorrow afternoon.
