FITA signs a cooperative agreement with FISU
FITA signs a cooperative agreement with FISU Lausanne - 2 June 2006 At the occasion of the opening of the FISU office, the FITA President, Dr Ugur Erdener and the FISU President, Prof. George Killian, signed a cooperative agreement between the two organizations. The FITA Secretary General, Mr Tom Dielen started his career in University Sport and was chairman of the Archery Technical Committee until Juan Carlos Holgado, the current FITA Event Director took his place.
The agreement will strengthen the relationships between the two organizations and FISU becomes Associate International Federation of FITA. FISU and FITA encourage the development of the practice of sports by students, both men and women. FISU with this agreement also agrees that the University competitions can be used to test new rules or equipment. In the next University World Championships a mixed team format will be tested as a result of this, which is a medal event that could be added in future to FITA World Championships.
FISU and FITA have successfully implemented the Academic Round for Teams which is shot on a Hit/Miss target which proofs to be a successful formula and which might be implemented in future by FITA at their events.
FISU has organized 5 World University Archery Championships and Archery has been on the program of the Universiads of Daegu and Izmir and will be on the program of the Universiads in Belgrade in 2009.
The 6th University Championships will take place in Vinicne, Slovak Republic - June 14th to 17th, 2006.
