The Championships of the "Comebacks"

Lausanne – 17 March 2006

First Medal for Host Country, Il Professore is back, Olympic Champion Third...

Almudena Gallardo from Spain has obtained the first medal for the host nation at the European championships in Jaen. She won the bronze medal match in the recurve women against the very strong Kateryna Palekha from the Ukraine.

The Gold medal match was won by the winner of the 2006 Nimes tournament, Berengère Shuh, who also was World Indoor Champion in 2003. Silver medallist is Naomi Folkard from Great Britain.

In the women’s compound division Agudo Fatima from Spain finished 4th loosing to Amandine Bouillot from France by two points. The gold medal was won by Camilla Soemod (DEN) against Valerie Fabre (FRA).

The Olympic Champion, Marco Galiazzo won in a close match against a surprising Terry Simon, who’s last public appearance goes back till 1992 when he won the bronze medal in Barcelona. Spain must be a good country for Terry Simon, who has started a successful comeback on the archery scene.

The gold medal is going to another person making his comeback, Mr Allesandro Rivolta who perhaps inspired by Japanese Yamamoto’s success in Athens has also made a comeback to the International scene. Rivolta was the European Champion in 1996 in Mol.

The men’s compound final was a pure French Final with Jean Marc Beaud beating Dominique Genet.

Tomorrow the championship will continue with the Team finals.
