More Drama in the 1st Elimination Round
Göteborg – 31 August 2006
This morning in the surroundings of Gunnebo House near Göteborg, Sweden, the qualified archers started the first individual elimination rounds of the Field Archery World Championships.
In the Men Recurve, Alan Wills (GBR), a former medalist, misses out in the 2nd shoot off. Jean Michel Piquet of Belgium continues to the next round. Michele Frangilli (ITA) continues to impress with a 177 score.
In the Recurve Junior Men, an archer from Chinese Taipei, Mr. Chang has impressed by shooting 164 points. This shows that the Asian archers are apprehending quickly how to shoot Field Archery.
In the Women’s Recurve, 2nd seeded Laure Barczynski (FRA) never came back after a bad start. All other favourites are on track for the 2nd elimination round.
In the Compound Men category the defending World Champion Chris White (GBR) misses out with one point, whereas the other favourites Niels Baldur (DEN) and John Dudley (USA) continue after shooting perfect scores. The other archers continuing all shot 179, one point short of perfect.
For the Compound Women we see a great comeback from Gladys Willems (BEL) who takes the 2nd place just behind Jamie Van Natta (USA). Qualification leader Francoise Volle (FRA) only takes 6th place.
In the Barebow Men a shoot off was necessary to determine the last position. Former World Champion Twan Cleven (NED) was eliminated and Germany’s Karl Heinz Klauter came through. At the top the Swedes still continue to show their skills.
In the Barebow Women Austrian Reingild Linhart continues to dominate her category.
