17 October 2006 - Youth World Championships Merida 2006: First Reactions from Archers at the end of the Qualification Round (morning session)

First Reactions from Archers at the end of the Qualification Rounds Merida – 17 October 2006     Janeth Garcia (MEX) – Recurve Cadet Women - Rank 1 (1317 pts)   How do you feel after the Qualification Round ? I feel very excited because I shot 351 at 30m and it is my best personal score ! And being ranked 1st is even better !   Did the wind play a role in the way you shot in qualification ? Yesterday, I shot better than today especially at 60m, but today I shot also quite good. I am very happy.   What do you think of the level of the other participants ? There is a lot of competitiveness. The others are very strong, but I am happy for Mexico because we are showing that we have the level to compete in events like this and also we are proving to the world that we are not only able to shoot well, but also to organise great events !   Jane Waller (AUS) – Recurve Cadet Women - Rank 2 (1314 pts)   How do you feel after the Qualification Round ? Very good, I really look forward to the Match Play Rounds !   Did the wind play a role in your shooting ? The wind was a bit tricky, it was hard to shoot with a strong wind like this, and you never knew where it was coming from and where it was going…   What do you think of the level of the other participants ? It is quite high, but I prefer like this: there is a lot of competitiveness among archers, it makes it more exciting.   Who is your idol in Archery ? Simon Fairweather ! (Editor’s note: Australian who was individual Olympic Champion in Sydney 2000)   Irvaldi Ananda Putera (INA), 11 years old – Recurve Cadet Men - Rank 71 (844 pts)   How do you feel after the Qualification Round ? Good, it is my 1st international competition. I’m happy to get some experience.   Did the wind play a role in your shooting ? No, the wind is not a problem.   Elena Tonetta (ITA) – Recurve Junior Women – Rank 4 (1284 pts)   How do you feel after the qualification round ? Not very good, I shot a bad 30m, so I lost my 1st place.   What do you think of the level of the other archers here ? It is ok, middle level. But I am sure the level will grow up as the competition is running.   How do you feel for the World Cup Final ? I feel very confident.   What do you think of your shooting here so far ? I am not shooting as good as usual, approximately 1280 points, while I usually shoot 1300. But the important part comes as of tomorrow !   Kevin Burri (SUI) – Compound Cadet Men – Rank 2 (1331 pts)   How do you feel after the qualification round ? Tired…   Did the wind play an important role in your result ? Mostly at 50m the wind was the strongest.   Who is your idol in archery ? The Swiss Patrizio Hofer !   How is the level of other archers here ? Quite high, I think.      Chantal Steiner FITA Communication
