19 October 2006 - Interview with Paris Goico de Lara (DOM), cadet compound archer and holder of a Viva America scholarship

Interview with Paris Goico de Lara (DOM), cadet compound archer and holder of a Viva America scholarship Merida – 19 October 2006   The interview was done on October 18 just after Paris qualified for the quarter finals.    How do you feel after this successful beginning ? (Editor’s note: the interview was done on October 18 just after Paris qualified for the 1/4 final) Good today, very good tomorrow ! Today was the bad, tomorrow is the good !   What are your expectations for the rest of the competition ? I am able to do it, I will be 1st !   What is your objective in Archery ? I want to be World Champion. In the World Ranking I am currently ranked 45th so I am getting closer and closer to number 1 ! Well, if I am in the top 10 I will be happy.   What do you think of the level of participants here ? The level is good, also 80% of the cadets here will become junior next year. I just hope there will be another generation of cadets to fill up the shooting line when we will not be there anymore ! Also, the weather did not help it, the wind did not make any favour to any of us, and as a result, the scores of the Juniors are as high as the scores of the Cadets !   How do you train at home ? After school, every day between 3:30pm and 7 pm or until the sun sets. On weekends we usually have national competitions, and when we don’t have any we have training camps. Actually, I shoot as much as I can, whenever I can !   Are you surprised with your result ? Actually, not really, because I have been competing in several international competitions lately, such as the Central American Caribbean Games, the World Cup in San Salvador and so on, and I really shot high scores on all these competitions, so I am not surprised to shoot the same here. But this is my first World Championships, I am happy to come so far.   Who is your idol in Archery ? I like a lot Jorge Jimenez (ESA) and Reo Wilde (USA). One of my goals is to beat them both, one day !   Chantal Steiner FITA Communication   Latest news: Paris Goico De Lara from the Dominican Republic has qualified today for the gold final of his category to be shot on Saturday and where he will face Swiss Kevin Burri for the world title.
