6 April 2007 - World Cup Stage 1 – Quotes of the day

World Cup Stage 1 – Quotes of the day Ulsan – 6 April 2007   First, we asked the finalists about their match: Anna Kazantseva (RUS)    Anna Kazantseva – 1st Compound Women I am delighted that I won my second World Cup event in my life… and my second Balmain watch. Maybe I will give it to a family member. It is the beginning of the outdoor season and it was hard to predict any result coming here. I hope this victory is a good sign for the summer time.   Sofia Goncharova – 2nd Compound Women My first arrow I shot a 7 left, and I wanted to compensate for the wind with my second arrow… It ended an 8 right! I could not really find my rhythm today and come back in the game. Anna shot well.   Logan Wilde (USA) – 4th Compound Men I was adjusting with the wind with my first three arrows. Then my next two shoots were good but they ended down left. I adjusted my sight and then I finished the match well. It was too late. Van Zutphen was a couple of points ahead and he never let go. You always want to win, but this fourth place isn’t so bad considering the fact we could not train much outside this year. It was snowing at home until now.      Logan Wilde (USA) Choi Eun Young (KOR) – 2nd Recurve Women I enjoyed myself here in front of the home fans but I tried to concentrate and do my best. I felt of the national team in 2003 and I came back in 2006. It is difficult to be in the national team in Korea because the level in the country is so high. Next week, we’ll have other trials to know who is going to the next World Cup events. I hope I will be there.   Im Dong Hyum (KOR) – 4th Recurve Men I was really excited to compete in front of my home fans, but I am disappointed and sad for the Koreans that I lost the game. I guess my Russian opponent had a better read of the wind today. I am coming back in shape and with some more practice, I hope to reach first place. We’ll have some international trials to know who is going to the next FITA events. I believe our next appearance will be in the Antalya World Cup. With his years of experience, Park Kyung Mo is a true captain in our team and gives us many advices. I am still young and I have a lot of admiration for him.   Wang Cheng Pang (TPE) – 1st Recurve Men We trained a lot in Korea, so we are used a bit to this wind. I just aim for the middle and this week, it went in a lot of times for me (including one arrow with just one second remaining in the clock). I hope to continue having good results in the World Cup.   Wang Cheng Pang (TPE)    We also asked three questions to some competitors: 1. Are you satisfied with your result here in Ulsan? 2. Is archery popular in your country? 3. Why do you think Korean archery is the best? Shuo Cai (CHN): 1. Yes, but I need more practice. 2. Yes, from long time ago, our ancestors enjoyed the Archery. 3. Because it is very popular.   Khairiah Abd Halim (MAS): 1. Not really 2. From 1970s, it became popular. Nowadays, Archery is the most popular among the students. We have so many tournaments and archery clinic. 3. Most countries' coaches are Korean. It means Koreans are the best in the world.   Choi Eun Young (KOR): 1. I'm really satisfied with my result. Actually I was nervous but god was with me. 2. I think that it’s really hard to become popular because the equipments are expensive as a common sport. It could be dangerous if we are careless. 3. These days, China and Southeast Asia are getting better. If we want to keep our fame, we must try harder.      Tsyrempilov (RUS) and Im (KOR) Wai Hung Tsui (HKG): 1. Not really 2. Not too much. There isn't enough land for the facilities. 3. I think that Korea government just only support Recurve. The Compound also needs more investment.   Wietse Van Alten (NED): 1. Depends on...but the average answer is NO!! 2. About 10,000 people enjoy it. Not so many facilities for archery are in our country. If our country is bigger, we could make it more popular and the national team would get better result. 3. Especially Korean Women Recurve Team is really strong. They must be practicing harder and harder.   Tyler Martin (USA): 1. No. 2. No, We need more competitions and chances to enjoy archery. 3. Korean Recurve Women Team is awesome. Our team also keeps doing our best.   Dong Hyun Im (Korea): 1. No. 2. The Equipments are so expensive. The government makes some places for experience about archery. 3. All Korean players do their best and practice harder. I think we want to get this fame.   Winnie (volunteer from Korea) / Didier Miéville FITA Communication
