Scavotto, Davis, Ellison and Gellenthien win Arizona Cup
Phoenix (USA) – 19 April 2007
Recurve Men Podium
USA archers Karen Scavotto, Jahna Davis, Brady Ellison and Braden Gellenthien won their respective categories at the AAE Arizona Cup last Saturday. This event proved a very-well run tournament attended by more than 250 archers from six countries this year.
Karen Scavotto beat Khatuna Lorig by two points (101-99) in the gold medal match. Lorig had shot the best score of the day in the Women Recurve category in her semi-final match versus Jennifer Nichols (113-108). Nichols finally took the bronze with a 15-point margin over Phyllis Shipman.
Only one point separated the two American 2006 World Cup finalists in their championships match in Women Compound. This time Jahna Davis won the gold medal while Jamie Van Natta took the silver (110-109). It was Brittany Lorenti who took the 3rd place in this category beating Danielle Brown in the bronze medal match (109-101).
Arizona’s Brady Ellison and the very experienced Victor Wunderle were tied with only three arrows to go in their gold medal match, but Wunderle shot only 21 points in his last end to let Ellison win by 7 points (102-105). Dan Schuller easily took the bronze in the Men Recurve category in his match with Tyler Domenech (104-94).
World Indoor Champion Braden Gellenthien was the best compound archer all along the tournament. His 1378 score in the FITA round was 21 points better than his closest opponent’s. On the day of the Olympic Round, he shot 118 points in his first three matches, and took the Gold Medal home after beating Tim Gillingham 114-112. Rodger Willett Jr. won the bronze over Dave Stepp (110-106).
