5 May 2007 - Four different winners at the team events

Four different winners at the team events Varese - 5 May 2007   The rain stopped for the team finals today and France, USA, China and Great Britain took advantage of it in the nicely set-up hippodrome “Le Bettole”.   Here is a recap of all the gold and bronze final matches.   Recurve Men Team Gold Final The British team begun with a 6 point lead over the Australian team. The Aussies didn’t want to let it go and they made the gap lower and lower as the ends were shot. In the second end, the British guys shot a 6, which frightened them a bit, as the score difference by then was only of 2 pts (158-156). In the next end, the British guys shot 10-9-9, while the Australians shot 8-9-10. The last end was very exciting since the Aussies begun with 27 pts, and the British team only had to shoot 26 pts to clinch the match. However they shot 25 pts which tied the match ! The shoot-off gave a one point advantage to the British guys who shot 27 pts against 26 for the Aussies. Gold goes to Great-Britain ! Silver goes to Australia.   Recurve Men Team Bronze Final Netherlands took the lead in the first end by 2 pts over the Americans (27-25). The US team tied the match in the second end, and continued to increase their score end after end. The Dutch team shot well, but Americans were better in their arrows, so they won the match and the bronze medal with a score of 223-211.   Recurve Women Team Gold Final The Polish team begun with a slight advantage over the Chinese (28-26), but one member of Poland shot a 6 in the first end, which allowed China to tie the score 50-50. The match was still tied midway to the second end with 77 pts on each side, but China took the lead by one point (104-103). Poland went over in the next round to lead 132-131. China didn’t want to let it go and, at the end, Poland shot some low arrows (7s and 8s) which allowed the Chinese to win the match 212-217 and take gold home. Poland is awarded with silver medal.   Recurve Women Team Bronze Final The match begun very badly for the Belarus team who shot 6-5-9. With this start, they could hardly come back to the score against the Koreans, who only scored 10s and 9s (without counting the two 8s). The final score in favour of Korea was 218-200. Bronze goes for Korea.   Compound Men Team Gold Final The Americans took the lead over the French guys as of the first end by two points (29-27 / 57-55). France tried to come back to the score but they were too short and the Americans continued to increase their lead (86-81). In the next end, USA scored 60 pts (146 pts), while France was far behind with only 135 pts. France tried hard to tie the score but the Americans were too strong. USA wins gold with a score of 233-219. France goes home with silver.   Compound Men Team Bronze Final The Swiss team begun the match with a 7 that put pressure on them for the rest of match. Shooting a few bad arrows (6, 7, 8) they could not come back to the score. Their opponent, the Iranian team, shot very well on their side scoring only 10s and 9s. Iran took bronze home with a score of 229-213.   Compound Women Team Gold Final The Russian team was leading in the by one point (28-27) after three arrows, but the French girls didn’t want to let it go and tied it at 56-56. France took its acts together to increase the lead slightly end by end and finally take gold home with a score of 224-221. Russian Federation gets silver medal.   Compound Women Team Bronze Final The Italian team begun with a perfect score of 30 pts, and they had a large advantage on the US Team after nine arrows (83-77). However, the Italians could not keep the pace and they considerably dropped their score. The Americans took advantage of the situation to score a perfect end and go on scoring 10s and a few 9s. The Americans finally won the bronze medal with a score of 222-216.   Chantal Steiner FITA Communication
